Ryan was a pastor for 12 years at churches in Ohio and Illinois. He was the US director of a theological training network and the Veritas School of Theology (VTS, Columbus, OH). He’s well acquainted with the need for forgiveness and a righteousness not his own. He is a speaker and writer who loves the church and her mission. He is passionate about helping people understand the entire Bible as the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Ryan has a Masters of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He is also a graduate of the Soul Care Institute (Crosspoint Ministries, Louisville, KY).
He’s published articles for Key Life Ministries, a Soteriology course for Porterbrook Network, and Foundations Curriculum for VTS. His writing is most often robust theology at the ground level.
He is married to Kate and they have three teenagers who they love spending time with. They live in the great city of Charlotte, NC and are members of Hope Community Church (PCA).
Ryan loves sunshine, good coffee, craft beer, a delicious cheeseburger, and claims to be the authority on chocolate chip cookies. Enjoying any (or all) of those around a table, laughing with friends and family, is his favorite place to be!
The CHECKERED PRESENT exists to set people free from the burdens of religion. We aren’t hoping in our transformation, we wish we could say we are getting a lot better, but unfortunately the Law wont allow us to say that. We wish we could say we had a checkered past, but we have to be honest and admit we have actually have a checkered present. We are sinners who are incapable of escaping our sin by our own efforts.
But in that admission we receive the Good News of the Gospel- that in Jesus Christ is our forgiveness and our righteousness. We aren’t good people becoming perfect, we’re people continually hoping in the salvation provided by Christ. Hallelujah, Amen.
